Mountain biking at Northeast Woods in Comox, B.C.

By Keith and Heather Nicol
Although we have been in the Comox Valley for a few years we have not spent much time at Northeast Woods which it turns out has a nice trail system for walking or biking. The mountain biking is abit harder than say the Wildwood Forest Loop or the Seal Bay Loop (both of which are classed as easy) and so is a good place to go to improve your biking skills. Just be aware if you are cycling that there are many people walking especially with their dogs so take care on the trails. Northeast Woods is located just off of Torrence Road in Comox.

Cycling Northeast Woods with son Michael
So far we have mainly ridden the Lazo Loop as it is called which is about 3.6 km and has roots and rocks in places to test your cycling abilities. We were there most recently with our son Michael who had not cycled in the area before. The easiest cycling is in the area to the west and north of parking area. There are several smooth trails here but it seems that once you start to head downhill the cycling becomes abit more challenging with roots and rocks to contend with. A front or full suspension bike is recommended.  The Lazo Loop is well marked for the most part and can be ridden in either direction although we tend to do it counterclockwise.  The area is also mapped on the app Trailforks and many of the side trails in the area seem to marked on it as well. This is useful for the first time visitor to help them get oriented.
